As the patrol went off ahead to search further in the ruins, Joshua and Katy stopped at the site of a massive paint explosion. The paint already looks runny and halfway gone.
Joshua smiles. "It was mostly water-based when I made the bomb, so all I really have to do to clean it is just throw more water on it." He says, gathering his buckets. "So what kinda archeologist are you? What do you study?"

"I study the artifacts they find." Shes aid. "Why did you paint it?"

"I don't think the military ought to be stripping this place of all it's history and natural wealth." Joshua says, throwing a bucket of water over a vivid blue streak. "So I set up a paintbomb to hit a patrol... It made sense at the time, I might've been a wee bit drunk, but don't tell whatshisface or I'll get in deep shit."

SHe sighed. "The military brought us in to learn about the histroy not to strip of it. How can you apprecitate it if you don't know anything about it?"

"If that's the case, why doesn't it go to a museum where everyone can learn about the history?" Joshua asks, tossing another bucket of water over a green splatter. "All the artifacts and things they take are just getting sent to private installations and kept top secret. If this is really about appreciation, why are they hiding it all?"

"How do you know this?" She said with a raised eyebrow.

"Everybody in the camps knows." Joshua says. "Some of the people in the camps used to be in the military, some of them are civilians who came from the base. Some of them are genuine historians... er... not to say that you are not a genuine archeologist, you probably are, just that they're independant of the military!"
He splashes a bucket of water over a red stain and pauses. "Oh... oh, that's not coming off like the others..."

"No it isn't. You better start scrubbing my friend!" She said. She yawned agian. She wasn't in the mood to argue so she wasn't planning onto. She neither had the strength or the mind power to do at that time. "Well if oyu want to protest it why don't you do it other ways that don't get you in trouble."

"We do," Joshua says, "Sometimes. We vote against the military presence here, some of the wealthier historians at the camps pay people to lobby in their favor, reporters write articles, that sorta stuff."
He finishes washing away the easy green, blue and yellow stains, then gets out a brush to tackle the stubborn red ones. "There ARE two camps I know of that are not so innocent," He admits. "I can't tell you where they are, but they sometimes stage protests that actually involve stealing or destroying military stuff, and they don't care if soldiers get hurt in the process."

"Ah well I don't know. It makes it dangerous for us lucky I haven't had any problems yet." She said with a sigh thinking of Paul and the dangers.

"Whooh, this smells funny." Joshua says, scrubbing at the red stain. He stops and sniffs it. "Doesn't smell like paint at all... did... did I even USE red paint in my bomb?"

"What does it smell like?" She said walking closer and looking at it.

"I dunno, it stinks like something rotten." Joshua says, making a face.
Somewhere deeper in the ruins, gunshots begin to echo.

Katy looked. "We should get out of here now." She said. "Hang on though." She said taking out a tool and chipping away at the stone making some pieces fall into a bag. She then reached to the small of her back and brought out a gun. She took one from her belt clip too and tossed it to him.

"Whoa! Cool..." Joshua says, checking out the gun. A distant scream from the direction of the patrol turns his head. "That was NOT cool..."
There's a rustle from behind the paint splattered stone, then something flops to the ground beside Katy. Ripped open and limp, the body still oozes red of the same color as the stains. It wears a military uniform, the nametag too smeared with blood to read. Everything below the waist seems to have been eaten...
