The current year is 3047ad. The advances of science have broken mankind free of our solar system. Life has been discovered on other planets, and humans have colonized on Mars, the moons of Jupiter, and several other planets.
Our starring planet is called Stavromula Beta. It has a gravity only slightly lighter than that of Earth. It was discovered fifty years ago outside our solar system by the explorer starship Stavron, led by Captain Muller.
Whether by civil war or natural disaster (or perhaps something more sinister...) the planet's native civilization has been reduced to ruins. Military archaeologists say the natives were bipedal creatures, very close to humans, except for large reptilian tails. As no living Stavromulan has been discovered, the ruins and artifacts within offer the only insight as to the way they lived their lives. The military post Red Base, stationed on this planet near the largest ruined city yet discovered, is in the process of conducting a slow and highly classified survey of native artifacts.
In addition, Red Post is also strategically placed close to a massive deposit of the mineral cystoff, which is used cheifly as a space-faring fuel. It may have undeveloped military applications, however!
Not long after the Red Post was built, camps of protestors began to arrive in the overgrown hills near the ruins. Though all are against the military's intrusions into the ruins and their intense mining operations, the tactics used by the protestors differ from camp to camp. Some stage non-violent demonstrations, while others are nearly terroristic in their attempt to stop the military in it's tracks.
